Improving the Flame Retardancy of Bamboo Slices by Coating With Melamine–Phytate via Layer-by-Layer Assembly

Bamboo is a rich natural resource in the Asia Pacific, and it widely used construction decoration industry. Meanwhile, bamboo an extremely combustible polymer material. Herein, slices were treated with melamine phytic acid using layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly technology to improve their flame retardancy properties. The morphology chemical composition of untreated measured by scanning electron microscopy equipped energy dispersive X-ray analysis Fourier transform infrared spectra. results showed that two-dimensional melamine–phytate (MP) nanoflakes successfully formed deposited on surface. deposition MP coating caused earlier degradation form char, according thermogravimetric analysis. peak heat release rates reduced more than 28% compared those ones. promoted formation thermally stable which was responsible for significant improvement retardancy. Besides, char layer excellent thermal resistance performed vital role suppressing spread.
